Granting access for students with diverse visual abilities
What We Do
Inspiration To Succeed

Since its inception, the Ohio State School for the Blind Parent Teacher Staff Foundation (OSSB Foundation) has worked in partnership with the Ohio State School for the Blind (OSSB) to support the needs of students who are blind or visually impaired and attending OSSB. Our mission is to help increase opportunities for success, independence, and personal growth.
The Foundation also proudly supports programs that allow students to showcase their skills and talents—providing role models, building confidence, and demonstrating that with the right accommodations, students with visual impairments can fully participate in activities such as athletics, music, and marching band, just like their sighted peers.

The OSSBPTSF is a hands-on organization. Current projects include…

Summer Programs

The Foundation has supported summer camps for Ohio students. These camps take place at OSSB and feature special interests such as community service, learning Braille, horticulture, sports, zoo animals, theatre, exploring the Ohio State Fair, and Marching Band Camp, among others. During band camp students memorize music and learn to perform the OSSBMB's new halftime show for the fall season. Students learn to read music, both in large print and Braille and march independently or with marching assistants. They work with college marching band students and participate in Ohio State University Marching Band summer sessions where they will perform some of their new halftime show for the OSUMB!

Helping Students Shine: Music

The Foundation has also helps fund projects in the Music Department, such as purchasing new equipment, band uniforms, renovation of musical instruments and the purchase of technology equipment for upgrading musical selections. December of 2019 will find the OSSB Marching Band in Tampa, Florida performing at the Outback Bowl. In 2009-2010 the OSSB Foundation helped raise funds for the OSSB Marching Band’s 2010 Tournament of Rose Pasadena Parade, Rose Bowl Bandfest, and Disneyland Band Concert performances. You can find the OSSB Marching Band each year at the Millersport SweetCorn Festival, and Circleville Pumpkin Parade.

Other Programs and Student Support

During the school year the foundation supports school activities such as Leo Club, Teacher Grants, Elementary Arts Festival, and the Parent Teacher Staff Organization with fund raising activities and support programs.
